Treating Emotional Dysregulation
Emotional dysregulation refers to difficulty managing the intensity, duration, or expression of emotions. It often involves strong mood swings, impulsive reactions, or prolonged emotional states that feel difficult to control. These patterns can interfere with relationships, decision-making, and self-esteem, and are often linked to chronic stress, trauma histories, or underlying mood and personality factors.
Therapy focuses on increasing awareness of emotional triggers, understanding how thoughts and behaviors influence reactions, and developing strategies to respond effectively rather than react impulsively. Over time, we aim to identify emotions more effectively, tolerate distress without avoidance or escalation, and express feelings in ways that support open communication and connection.
