Talent & Giftedness Testing
Giftedness testing evaluates a child’s cognitive and academic abilities to determine whether they meet criteria for advanced learning programs. Because school districts differ in how they define “gifted,” we tailor each evaluation to the specific requirements of your school system. Using nationally recognized cognitive and achievement measures, we assess areas such as problem-solving, verbal and nonverbal reasoning, processing speed, and academic skills. The goal is to provide a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and to support placement decisions when schools do not offer in-house testing.
Consultation & Preparation
The process begins with an initial discussion of your child’s academic history and the specific requirements of their school district. Because many districts offer gifted testing at no cost, we encourage families first to confirm whether school-based evaluation is available. If independent testing is needed, this meeting ensures we select the appropriate cognitive and academic measures that meet your district’s gifted identification guidelines and tailor the evaluation to your child’s needs.
ALPS Giftedness Testing Overview
Interview & Testing
The evaluation includes a brief parent interview to understand your child’s learning style, early development, and educational history. Testing typically involves standardized cognitive assessments and academic achievement measures commonly accepted by school districts for gifted identification. Each component is selected to align with your district’s criteria, ensuring results are valid for program consideration. This structured approach ensures we capture a clear and objective profile of your child’s abilities.
Feedback & Planning
Feedback sessions provide a detailed explanation of your child’s results, including cognitive and academic scores, interpretation of strengths, and whether district-specific gifted criteria were met. We review any applicable placement guidelines, offer guidance on submitting results to your child’s school, and discuss next steps for enrichment or advanced learning opportunities. The goal is to ensure findings are understandable, useful, and directly support your child’s educational planning.
